Hello, girls! I know it's been a while since I last posted something but for the past week I've been at my godmother's house in Sinaia and all I've done was lie out in the sun, read a few magazines, take some relaxing walks and play with my neighbour's adorable dog.
But now I'm back with a new post about packing tips. Since there is one more month of summer and some of us are still going on holiday, I thought that this type of post can be helpful.
So, here are the main steps I follow when I prepare my clothes for a trip:
1. A few days before I leave, I think about the clothes I would like to take with me in order to see if some of them need to be washed so that they will be ready in time;
2. I always check the weather online so that I can pack all the right clothes which are appropriate for my destination;
3. In order to avoid over packing I try to pick my clothes depending on the number of days I'm going to spend on holiday. If for example I am going to be away for 6 or 7 days, I try to build up around two outfits per day (with a few extra items just in case) so that I'm not going to stuff my luggage with unnecessary clothes;
4. Furthermore, when picking out my outfits, I think about the places I have to visit so that I can be dressed appropriately depending on any situation. For example, take my recent trip to Rome, because I knew that I was going to spend most of the days walking for hours through the city, I tried to pack some of the most comfortable pieces of clothing I own, such as short shorts, flowy tops and comfy flat sandals;
5. Because I love to feel comfortable when I'm on holiday, when it comes to my bags, most often I choose to take with me a medium sized bag or/ and a cross body bag, big enough to fit my camera, a map, a travel guide, my purse and a few extra bits such as a face spray, a lip balm or a hand sanitiser.
6. I don't usually take too many pairs of shoes with me (around four): two or three pairs of comfy shoes, and maybe one pair of wedges or heeled shoes which I deposit in dust bags.
When it comes to my makeup, I like to keep thinks really simple and natural. I'm on holiday, aren't I? This is why all I need is: a mascara, an eyeliner, some concealer, a very light foundation or a BB cream, a blush, one or two lipsticks and a make-up palette with nude/ natural colours (just in case I fell the need to doll up a little) such as the Naked Palette or the Coastal Scents Warm Palette. Also, whenever I am going to a place where the weather is very hot, the face spray is a staple product for me because it has a reinvigorating effect on my skin.
Skin care wise, these are the main products I take with me on a trip: a hydrating face cream, makeup wipes, tonic lotion, a body lotion and a hand cream.
Hair care wise, I usually take with me: shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, dry shampoo and a hair straightener.
As far as my jewelry is concerned, I try not to exaggerate and take my whole jewellery box. Instead I take with me around two pairs of earrings. a few rings, one or two necklaces and a few bracelets and I usually deposit them in a small box.
Miscellaneous tips:
1. Always put your shoes and other chunky pieces of clothing (such as jackets) at the bottom of the suitcase;
2. Always keep your money and passport with you. If not, put them in the deposit box from your hotel room;
3. Put all your liquids in plastic bags so that in case they spill, they will not stain your clothes;
4. If you have some valuable jewellery or possessions with you, then it would be a good choice to carry them in your hand luggage;
5. Make a list with the most important things and revise it on the eve of your departure so that you won't forget anything you might need.
I'm not an expert in packing but since I love travelling so much I thought I could share with you some of my packing tips. You can think of these tips as some general guidelines which you can adapt to your own needs. Remember that besides your money, ID cards and passport, most of the things are not irreplaceable and that wherever you are going there are plenty of shops to buy from in case you forget your toothbrush or your jacket for example.
Enjoy your holidays, loves! x
